The Book Fair is Coming!

Join us for our Scholastic Book Fair, which will be taking place from November 30th-December 4th! Here is some important information to remember as we get ready for the fair.

Our class schedule for the week is attached below. Regular library classes have been cancelled so that our students may come to fair to browse and purchase.

Fliers will be sent home this week so that students may begin to preview the books available at the fair. Please note that all purchases at the fair are subject to the 6.25% Massachusetts sales tax, so please be sure to send your student with enough money to cover the tax in addition to the price of the books they purchase. Wish lists will be available for students to record the books they would like to purchase. They are encouraged make lists and to take these lists home to discuss with their families before they buy their books.

As always, there is no obligation to purchase anything at the book fair. Proceeds from the fair benefit the Pine Glen Library and help us purchase new, exciting, educational materials! Thanks as always for your support. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Carney at (781) 221-7798 or mcarney@bpsk12.org.

Technology Happenings

Here's a look at our Pine Glen students using technology to support and enhance their learning.  The kindergarten animal family project combines Science, Art, Speaking, and Technology whereas the second grade lesson teaches the digital citizenship lesson of staying safe when going online.  This lesson has many connections to the ways we participate as citizens in our own physical communities and how we stay safe in our these communities.

Grade K

Our kindergartners have been learning about animals and their families with their homeroom teachers.  After establishing a solid foundation of background knowledge about animals and their families, students used our classroom ipads to draw animals using the app, Drawing Pad, and the app, Explain Everything, to record the animal facts they had learned.  Enjoy each classroom's animal family project below.

Grade 2

Second grade students have been learning about digital citizenship and how to stay safe online.  We used Common Sense Education's curriculum and lesson, "Going Places Safely" which teaches us how to safely visit places on the internet.  Here are pictures and video from the lesson as well as students safely visiting the San Diego Zoo website on their ipads.
